The Highlight of the card and one of the highlights of the summer season is the summer plate. The race always attracts good entries and there have been some cracking renewals over the years.

6 out of the last 10 running have been won by 7/8 year olds who have been backed and are generally prominant in the markets.

This years race is as competitive a race as you would expect with leading trainers having seemingly laid out a number of horses between them.

So, where do we start ?

Having looked at the race and cosidered the stats, my first port of call is Calett Mad.

I have him in as a 6/1 shot on this basis, I think he is potentially, the class horse in the race, I watched his last 5 races. Ok the form is a bit in and out but he will get the trip with ease, ground will not be a problem.

Off a mark of 143, just 1lb above his mark when finishing 2nd in a Novice Handicap Chase at Ayr on their Grand National day in 2017 when only a 5yo.

He is a horse thats just grown into his frame now and his last run at Perth, albeit a weak 3 runner listed hurdle, gave me the impression he is starting to bloom and mentally grow up and I expect a big run today. 8/1 best priced this morning, I have him in as a 6/1 shot.

Now my problem is, and I dont often do this, I do like another horse in the race and that is Peter Bowen's  8yo son of Presenting More Bucks.

The former inmate of Paul Nicholls yard is a 9/1 shot this morning and I have him in as a 6/1 jt fav with Calet Mad. He bounced back to form in no uncertain style with a wide margin win in a class 3 at Perth LTO, he will have no problem with trip, ground or track. Travel's well in his races when on form and the tranfer to the excellent Bowen yard seems to have rejuvinated him.

The Perth race was won off a mark of 119 beating subsequent winner Pickamix by 21 lengths. The handicapper has reacted by putting More Bucks up 8lb to 127. However More Bucks defied this mark at Sandown in a class 3 Handicap chase a couple of years ago.

I am more than happy to back both these horses at the prices with a 1pt win
