In the end a disappointing day and in the case of the NHF race and extremely frustrating one but we will come on to that later.

Firstly lets deal with the 4.00 Galway, the 20f Novice Hurdle.

Exchange rate was held up to get the trip and the race can be rated around him.

Watching the race carefully, there is no doubt in my mind that the best horses in the race were 3rd and 4th respectivly. The two geldings, carrying a penalties for their previous wins and giving weight to mares was just too much in the conditions which had clearly worsened as the day wore on.

As previously mentioned, Exchange Rate was ridden to get the trip in my opinion, which ever since I watched Dancing Brave all those years ago, I always think is a mistake. They either do or they dont and should always be ridden as if they do. There is no doubt in my mind, if Exchange Rate had been ridden as if the trip was no problem, he would have won, and Ive rated him accordingly.

With regard to our Morning selection for the race, Minnella Times, he simply could not give the weight and allowence to the mares in the ground as a 5yo. He even ran as though 3 miles wont be a problem now. Always well up with the pace, he was found out two from home when the kick for home came from the two mares and even though he stayed on like a stayer in the home straight, under those conditions, he could not live with the turn of foot in front of him. One for the future, Ive made notes against him for the autumn and hopefully will repay us down the line. An out and out staying chaser in the making.

If you read my write up yesterday about the 5.50 2m 2f  National Hunt Flat Race, I concentrated on two horses, You Raised me Up and Doctor Duffy.

Well for the reasons stated I selected Doctor Duffy and sods law being what it is, they fought out the finish and You Raised Me Up, whom I did not think would get the trip, did, and to be fair was the best horse on the day and I cant really have any complaints. Doctor Duffy ran his race beating everything else off.

This of course opens new doors for You Raised Me Up Now, although I cant help still having reservations and he cant be a tracker horse yet whereas I still think there is improvent to come from Doctor Duffy and he will go in the tracker. It should be noted though that both horses have great collateral form.
