Well, we lost two and a half points on the night with a second and third and a nowhere. But we live to fight another day.

Mason's Daughter was a fine winner of the opening Maiden Hurdle at 5.50. Too classy in every department for our selection, Paris Texas, who, it has to be said almost certainly ran his race and I have rated the race around that horse.

I messaged the syndicate, Blue Blood racing to offer my congratualtions on the win and their representitive messaged me back to say..." She is developing mentally all the time and Patrick and herself get on very well both on and off the track. She has won left handed before so we wouldn't think that is a problem. She was exceptionally good tonight and I think she does like to do her own thing".

Having taken the race by the scruff of the neck early doors the result was never in doubt. It will be very interesting to see where she goes now. Clearly has a terrific engine and provided the quirks have been eradicated she could prove a force in mares only races as the late Summer and early Autumn beckons. I have put her in my tracker with that type of race in mind.

The 6.20 Maiden Hurdle was as I stated " shooting at the stars" a little with Blick Des Obeaux. So it proved. I dont regret the half point bet as sometimes, at good odds, reading between the lines does bear fruit. Not this time though and frankly the less said about what turnred out to be and awful race, the better.

The race I was most interested in on the night was the Novice Hurdle at 7.20. I was really taken with Lord Erskin's previous victories and was reasonably confident of collecting. However when late money comes for a Willie Mullins trained horse you have opposed, and it is backed in to 2/1 fav from 11/4, you can be pretty certain you have a fight on your hands and that is how it turned out.

There is no doubt that Lord Erskin saw out the step up in trip to 2m6f and on another day may well be a selction again as he did absolutely nothing wrong here. Just bumped into a better horse on the night. It could be argued that he came from to far back whilst Pleasure Dome was always up in the front rank, ridden a little too confidently if you like, but I think , In truth, the winner was probably just too good on the night.

Lord Erskin goes in the tracker, his winning cant be over yet I am sure.

It would not suprise me in the least to see Pleasure Dome turn up at Galway or Listowel in September, The horse is not going in my tracker as she will almost certainly be stepped up in class and I would rather assess the race as a whole than go with preconceived ideas about one horse.

My thanks to Blue Blood Racing for taking the time to message me after the race
